Cuilfail hotel setting

This delightful little inn style hotel nestles invitingly at the foot of rolling hills close to the shores of Loch Melfort, in the quiet roadside hamlet of Kilmelford, 14 miles south of Oban.

Part of the hotel was originally an old drovers' inn, however the majority of the hotel was built during the Victorian era. The name Cuilfail (pronounced ‘cool-fail’) in Gaelic appropriately means "Sheltered Corner".

The atmosphere is one of total peace and tranquillity.

A pastoral haven, its position presents a quite spectacular array of sightseeing and touring opportunities all only a short drive away - to the north and north west are Oban and the nearby famous islands of Mull and Iona, to the east the awe-inspiring desolation of the West Highland mountains and Munroes in Cruachan and Dalmally, to the south the delightful coastal villages of Ardfern and Craobh Haven, then inland to Kilmartin with its standing stones, and onwards to glorious Loch Fyne and the Mull of Kintyre.

The location epitomises Scotland’s reputation as the land of contrasts - a kaleidoscope of scenic feasts changing as do the seasons, an almost infinite variety of visual delights. None greater than the magnificent display of ivy which bedecks the little hotel with quite amazing colour for most of the summer and autumn months.
